Welcome to the Visual Language Lab at Georgia Tech!
Jenny Singleton, Professor, School of Psychology
Research in our lab focuses on how brain and behavior is influenced by the learning of American Sign Language (ASL). For example, when young infants are exposed to ASL, do we see changes in their eye gaze behavior (as compared to infants who do not experience signed language input)? Do teenagers with language or learning challenges experience the same obstacles when learning ASL? Is there such a thing as a “sign language disorder”? Are these similar in nature to spoken language disorders? All of these questions are on our front burner and we include both graduate students and undergraduate students in our research projects. Our research is supported by the National Science Foundation Science of Learning Center on Visual Language and Visual Learning, based at Gallaudet University.
